Mix together the following ingredients in a medium size glass jar:

  • 2 tablespoons of Baking Soda (food grade)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Humic acid (providing your dog has no kidney issues)
  • A pinch of Tumeric powder
  • Literally half a dozen grains of salt & one grind of cracked black pepper
  • A pinch of activated charcoal
  • Mix all these ingredients until well blended. Lastly add a few enough coconut oil to thicken & smooth into a pastelike substance.

Store the jar in the refrigerator.

  • Using a very soft bamboo toothbrush or your finger whichever is easier brush your dogs gums & teeth in a circular motion downwards with less pressure on the gums obviously.
  • Initially, this may cause a little bleeding.
  • Go very softly.
  • Do this daily
  • The gum colour will improve & the tartar will disappear.

All ingredients are safe should some be ingested.

Offer your dog clean drinking water afterwards.

This recipe is designed for those who are unable to afford the thousands of $ vets are asking to clean dogs teeth.

I would make a fresh batch of this dogs toothpaste weekly.

Another helpful solution is to feed your dog a raw chicken neck.

Some owners choose not to use this option as their dog has nearly choked whilst doing so.. please use your own discretion here.

Another option to get your dog chewing is to scrub a large sweet potato. Leaving the skin on, cut it into strips & bake at a very low temperature (120 degrees Celsius) for 3 hours, turning it once. Let them cool completely.

This will give you a dried out chewy strip full of healthy nutrients without chemicals.

As you may have discovered by now, the poor health of a dogs mouth can greatly affect their gut health & in turn their immune system and skin.

There are also dog tooth & gum cleaning machines available if you’re so inclined & your dog lets you do this safely. These machines allow for accessing tartar under the gum line. I would use this under close scrutiny of a trained vet or vet nurse.

Avoiding too many processed foods or foods with inflammatory ingredients is also helpful. No different to ourselves. Read the ingredients. Avoid sugars & fillers.

Personally, after a few months have passed & your dogs mouth hygiene has returned to normal along with their gut health and immune system. I would recommend a return vet visit to have your dogs mouth rechecked just to make sure the problem has been rectified.
